This review is from the perspective of an import gamer.
Overall, I'd say the console is not bad, but certainly not perfect and definitely isn't as great as the PS2.

Pluses:

+ With the price drop and re-design, the slim definitely became an attractive purchase, especially as a long-time PS2 fan.
The console is definitely larger than even the fat PS2, and quite heavy, but it's not overly large.
+ I appreciated that games wasn't region locked and that you could sign up for PSN accounts in multiple regions to download content from around the world.
+ It was actually quite fun to try out different demos and videso.

Minuses:

- What caused me to return this within two days is the lack of customizable buttons for confirm and deny in the XMB.
I have no idea why Sony feels they need to force the user to use X for confirm in US regions.
- Library of games is still quite sparse, even after 3 years, especially in the genere of RPGs and visual novels.

It is quieter, a blu ray player, the controls are better, the games are better, and the biggest plus is it doesn't break down like Xbox360s do (look up red ring of death for Xbox360s if you need to research further).
