Lowest Price PlayStation 3 120 GB

RATING

I will begin with the rating part so that those who are already familiar with the PS3 line may save some time.

On balance, I found the PS3 Slim or the 'PS3 120GB' to be a worthy addition to the current PS3 line. It comes with several major improvements over its predecessors and the 'trade offs' are few and, to most us, insignificant.

This how the new model compares to its predecessors:

PS3 SLIM vs. PS3 80/160GB

+ $100/200 less
+ Smaller
+ More energy efficient
+ More quiet operation
+ Cooler
+ Smaller Cell processor manufactured using a 45-nanometer manufacturing process
+ New, more advanced HDMI 1.3 chipset
+ Easier HDD upgrade

- No Linux support
- No on-off switch in the back
- Push rather than touch 'On' and 'Eject' buttons
- Not as pretty

= Unchanged game-playing experience
= Same great Blu-ray player
= Same PSP integration
= Same WiFi, Bluetooth built-in
= Same Dualshock 3 rumble, motion sensitive controller
= Same I/O options

The PS3 Slim is a superior product when compared with the PS3 80/160GB models. This relatively inexpensive, feature packed, versatile gaming machine, multimedia hub and outstanding Blu-ray player, earns back the 5th star that I granted the Classic models and I didn't feel that the PS3 80/160GB models deserved.

Granted, when compared to the PS3 Classic, the PS3 Slim lacks PS2 compatibility, has 2 fewer USB ports and and it lacks media card slots but these shortcomings are offset by the significantly lower price, energy efficiency, larger storage and an updated CPU and HDMI. And, keeping hope alive by feeding it rumors, who knows? Sony just might add PS2 software emulation once it stops manufacturing the PS2 sometime, next year.

MY TEST DRIVE IMPRESSIONS

The good news is that you can do just about everything you did with the PS3 80/160GB models and in the exact same way. During my test ride, I was able to play all the games I brought with me without a problem, the Bluetooth remote controller was recognized immediately and so was the Playstation Eye. Both a USB-dongle full-size wireless keyboard, a USB-connected wired keyboard and Sony's own Bluetooth mini-keyboard worked as expected. I was able to upload pictures, videos and music from a USB thumb drive and a USB-connected SATA 2.5" hard disk and play them in the same way I do it on my own PS3. The person who allowed me the test drive suggested that I do not sign into the PSN but I have no doubt that the Slim behaves exactly like its predecessors on the PSN, running HOME or while browsing the Net.

The Slim has the exact same ports in the back, the same buttons in front - albeit 'push' buttons instead of the 'touch' buttons, the same 2 USB ports, comes with the same Dualshock 3 controller, USB cable and Composite AV cable accessories.

The older PS3s weren't particularly noisy but the Slim seems to be more quiet and, after several hours of play, it didn't get as warm as my Classic. The ONLY 2 USB ports bother me a little because I brought along the Eye, a USB-wired HDD, a USB keyboard and a dongle-based wireless keyboard. That meant that I had to do a lot of plugging and unplugging when testing. In real life, it's not so convenient to charge a controller and access more than one USB-connected peripheral. There are third party generic USB hubs (ugly) or PS3-specific port extenders and media hubs that could be used to increase the number of USB ports and bring back the media card slots.

My overall impression of the Slim is "nothing new" at least on surface. The "cooler, quieter, smaller, more energy efficient" you don't notice while playing a game or watching a movie. The really great news about the Slim is that so many more will be able to afford it and, with a larger user base, more developers will feel more strongly motivated to publish more, better games that all of us will enjoy.

THE SLIM (PS3) vs. THE 'XBOX 360 ELITE FALL 2009'

This is not meant to be a 'fan' statement. I don't own a Wii but I do own an Xbox 360 so I will be able to discuss PS3 Slim vs. Xbox 360 Elite and, hopefully, it may help a little those undecided between the two or those thinking about getting a PS3 as a second gaming console. Please be aware that, even though I own both consoles and I try to be as objective as possible, I do tend to favor the PS3.

Parity
------
- Storage: 120 GB on both systems
- CD, DVD playback: both
- Bluetooth/IR: Bluetooth included with PS3, Infrared remote for Xbox
- Community: PSN/Home memberships are free, Xbox Live includes free Silver membership and one-month Gold subscription, paid thereafter

Advantage PS3 Slim
------------------
- Blu-ray: PS3 only. Blu-ray disks aren't used for HD movie playback but to deliver games as well. Since they store several times more data than a DVD disk, PS3 games can be 'bigger' and be still delivered on one disk, eliminating the need for swapping during gameplay.
- WiFi: included with PS3, available as an add-on for Xbox.
- HDMI 1.3a on PS3 (more vivid colors, better sound) vs. HDMI 1.2 on Xbox
- Controller: wireless on both systems, rumble on both, PS3's only is motion sensitive, rechargeable batteries built into PS3's, Xbox rechargeable battery packs available for purchase.
- Integration with a handheld device: PS3 integrates with the PSP, the Xbox offers Zune integration. I would call it 'advantage PS3' because the Zune integration is limited to file transfers.
- Internal power supply: yes for the Slim, a large external 'brick' for the Xbox.
- Ability to upgrade the Hard Disk: the PS3 could use any cheap 2.5" SATA on the market (a 500GB can be had for $90 at the time of this writing and the existing PS3 disk can be recycled to upgrade a laptop or as external storage) without voiding the warranty. I am not aware Xbox HDD upgrades beyond 120GB but, judging by the 120GB upgrade HDD for the smaller models, they are likely to be proprietary, more expensive solutions.
- Slim comes with USB, Ethernet and Composite cables, Xbox has only Composite in the box.

Advantage Xbox 360 Elite Fall 2009
----------------------------------
- Headset: not included with PS3 but any Bluetooth device will work, wired headset included with Xbox Elite.
- Ethernet: PS3 supports Gigabit Ethernet, Xbox is limited to 100BASET-T.
- USB ports: Xbox comes with 3, Slim has only 2.

It seems that a PS3 Slim can be brought to parity with the Xbox 360 Elite by purchasing a Bluetooth headset (possibly for less than $10 and that would make the PS3 a superior choice since the Xbox headset is wired to the controller. For the amount, the PS3 will match and surpass Xbox feature for feature if we don't factor in exclusive Xbox games or unique Xbox Live features.

To bring the Xbox 360 Elite to parity with the PS3 one would need: a WiFi adapter ($70) and rechargeable batteries ($10). I will not add the various cables to the list because, depending on setup, they may or may not be needed and PS3's Gigabit Ethernet is not likely to make a difference in anyone's gaming or movie streaming at this time. $80 would bring the Xbox closer to the PS3 but the Xbox won't support Blu-ray, does not have a motion sensitive controller, can't function without an external power supply and, Zune withstanding, it does not integrate with a hand-held gaming device. In addition, continuing the Xbox Live Gold beyond the initial month would be another $30-50 per year for the life of the Elite.

I chose not to factor in the quality of available software because it's impossible to be even remotely objective when it comes to judge Sony's exclusives vs. Xbox exclusives. My guess is that, in the end, those who must have Halo will buy a Microsoft Xbox regardless of cost or other features and those who fall in love with Little Big Planet or Uncharted have no choice but a Sony PS3. The general consensus is that, at this time, the PS3 has the superior hardware (see above) while the Xbox has an advantage in exclusive titles and some exclusive content. In addition, many multiplatform games are developed on the Xbox first and then ported to the PS3. That can make the Xbox versions appear to be superior and, more importantly, the PS3 versions do not always take full advantage of PS3s superior hardware. This seems to be less the case as developers are becoming more familiar with the PS3 platform - the software gap, if there is one at this time, it is closing fast.

Note 1: MY OWN BIAS

We own a 'Classic' 60GB PS3, currently upgraded to 320GB, DualShock 3 and complemented with various peripherals: PS3 Eye, Logitech Driving Force GT Racing Wheel, Bluetooth keyboard attachment, headset... etc. We also own an Xbox 360 Elite, 3 PSP 3000's (got 3 kids) and a second-hand DS. We used to have a PS2 but we sold it shortly after purchasing the PS3. I've helped several of my neighbors purchase, install and upgrade their own PS3's. I am posting this review because I had the opportunity to test drive a PS3 Slim for several hours a couple of nights before the official launch - someone I know works at a store that sells gaming consoles.

Speaking for myself only, I tend to favor the PS3 for several reasons and here they are:

- WiFi - This is a major convenience for me. I hate 'wires' and the PS3 has the WiFi built in and it's VERY easy to set up.
- Blu-ray - I was an early adopter and I haven't bought 'new' DVDs in more than a year. Having the PS3 doubling up as a Blu-ray player is another major convenience for me.
- HDD Storage upgrade - I don't believe that 120GB is sufficient these days and our console has exceeded the 120GB threshold already after lots of downloaded games and movies and transferring thousands of photos and songs to it. A PS3 can be easily and inexpensively upgraded to 500GB today and this is a big plus.
- Little Big Planet - It's a Sony exclusive and my kids just love this game. They would probably run away and resettle with a family that has LBP if I got rid of the PS3.

Note 3: HDD UPGRADE

If you are on the upgrade path, less than $90 would buy you a 500GB drive. The one that I tested would be the 500GB Scorpio Blue Mobile Sata 5400RPM 8MB 2.5IN which replaced my laptop's 60GB little drive and a friend's 80GB PS3 HDD. The nice thing about upgrading your disk is that you are also going to be left with a perfectly good 80GB or $160GB or 120GB drive which you can place into a cheap enclosure, and the StarTech AT2510U2 InfoSafe 2.5-Inch USB/SATA Hard Drive Enclosure worked for me. After I upgraded my own console to 320Gb, I used the free leftover drive as a backup device for family photos. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Save PlayStation 3 120 GB

It's here! The long awaited PS3 slim (and the even longer awaited price cut) is available on department store shelves and online. As with the PS2, Sony has managed to draw new hype by reissuing the same console in a smaller, sleeker package and knocking one hundred dollars off the price tag. Will this concept finally boost slumping PS3 sales? Only time will tell, however Amazon is currently limiting the amount of PS3 sales to one per household, much like the Nintendo Wii when it was introduced. A strong indication that the website is expecting the newly designed model to be snatched up faster than Tickle Me Elmo's on Christmas Eve...or maybe this is just Sony's wishful thinking.

So...what's the difference between the PS3 slim and the original PS3 (2006 edition), let's take a quick look:

PS3 Slim

- Smaller design (now measures 13.385"(w) x 13.385"(h) x 6.299"(d)) which makes it 33% slimmer and 36% lighter than the original

- More energy efficient design (uses 34% less electricity)

- Flat charcoal black plastic cover (significantly reduces fingerprint smudges)

- Redesigned cooling system

- Cell processor has been upped to a 45nm manufacturing process (runs quieter)

- One hundred dollar price cut (the biggest modification yet)

Okay, so they didn't really go all out by adding any additional features or deviating too far from the already installed ones, but Sony has managed to finally lower the price of the unit. That's something customers were beginning to think would never happen.

A few things customers might not like is Sony's uncompromising style of forcing proprietary items to it's PS3 fan base. For example, universal remotes are still inoperative when being used on the console because it purposely lacks infrared technology. You will still need a Bluetooth remote to operate the unit from across the room. The unit (as expected) is not backwards compatible, so PS2 games can't be played on the new console. And online gameplay is still slightly problematic when compared to the Xbox 360.

Basically consumers are being reintroduced to a modified product with a smaller price tag. With Christmas just around the corner this is a perfect sales approach to finally get the PS3 moving off the shelves and into the homes of gamers.

The PS3 earns a solid 4-star rating, it might not come with many added features when compared to the original, but the reduced price is something that is hard to ignore.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Discount PlayStation 3 120 GB

When it has honestly came down to the video game console wars, Sony has unfortunately lagged behind the pact of sales, with Microsoft and the Xbox 360 & Nintendo with the Wii. Sony sadly hasn't had the sales to match with the way gamers across the country had definitely needed for their needs. While it still has had some great games like Motorstorm and Guitar Hero: World Tour, there still wasn't a whole lot there for those who simply at the time, couldn't afford to buy the PS3. Well, after a few years of desperation, Sony has decided to pull out all the stops, by reducing its price, but to enhance the way that the PS3 has made itself a influential video game system. Well, with Sony deciding to soon retire the Playstation 2, Sony has put its priorities on the PS3 full time, with not only a reintroduction, but a new sleaker version. But, is it worth its weight in what it is worth, or should Sony make more drastic measures?

The newer, and simpler Sony Playstation 3, brings in all that we have enjoyed from the original PS3, but add in a bit more within the price, and the gameplay. The system offers a much bigger hard drive for its price, but has all the features from top to bottom that were enjoyed from the PS3 right out of the box, including a bigger hard drive, where you can store 120 GB of gaming from the PSN, and downloadable content and games like the simple Flower, as well as play all your favorite movies on DVD & Blu-Ray discs. The setup makes it a lot sleaker and more convient to place around your house, more than any other Blu-Ray player currently on the market. You also get to play all your favorite PS3 games like Gran Turismo 5: Epilogue, Ratchet & Clank: Tools Of Destruction, and many other greats. The setup is very easy, and fun to play. Sadly though, there are a few disadvantages with this one. The first one is that unlike the PS2 or the Nintendo Wii, it honestly isn't backwards compatable. So if you still own Playstation 2 or the original Playstation 1 games, you sadly won't be able to play them here. Also, the loading time for Blu-Ray movies takes awhile on the new PS3, because the speed of the system for those discs is very slow. But you do get very well, a whole lot for what your money is worth right now, if you simply couldn't afford the PS3 then, and waited for the price to drop.

All in all, despite a few things that could've been added for the newer version of the Playstation 3, it still is a great system from start to finish. Now, that the price has dropped, it is a better time to buy the PS3 than ever before. With Blu-ay players and discs being more affordable right now, it makes the system a must have video game owner. If you've waited for the price to drop on the PS3, because you couldn't afford it 3 years ago, now is the right time to jam your heart out on Sony's PS3.

Cheapest PlayStation 3 120 GB

I originally wrote a review on the 60 gb PS3 right after it launched in November, 2006. Like the original 60 gb the new PS3 slim 120 gb is almost as good once you get past its few flaws. The new Playstation 3 has the same specifications as the previous model, but it's 32% smaller, 36% lighter and 33% more energy-efficient than the regular Playstation 3. It sports a slightly different look and the touch buttons are now replaced with real buttons. I have to say the SONY Playstation 3 is one amazing system. One of the most welcome features is the PS3 Slims ability to bit stream both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. As for the games we are finally starting to see the true potential of this amazing system. You get an amazing blu-ray player that is future proof thanks to the system being able to receive firmware updates via the web. If you have a 1080p HDTV you will be amazed at the picture quality which is up to six times more detailed than DVD. You also get theater quality sound and picture that DVD, cable, satellite HD, and even apple TV just can't touch because of their bandwidth limitations. If you have standard DVDs the PS3 upscales them to 1080p which brings all your DVDs to life. Don't expect blu-ray quality from watching DVDs, but do expect them to look much better and sharper because they are being upscaled to look better on your HDTV. I like the fact that the system has online connectivity and that it also has a built in browser should you just want to surf the internet. Most of all I like the fact that you get built in wi-fi. if you all ready have internet access you just have to set this up with your wi-fi router, or if your lucky enough you might be able to pick up free wi-fi if you don't have internet access. You can download your favorite music/videos to the ps3 hard drive and if available online it will display the artist names and songs. You can even connect a USB keyboard (along with almost any type of USB device) to make surfing the internet faster and more enjoyable. With the recently launched Playstation Store you can play demos, download classic PS1 and PS2 (and some new PS3 games) games, get wallpapers, and watch blu-ray and new movie trailers. With the new virtual world Home you can create a virtual character and explore the virtual world. If your friends have a PS3 you can meet them in home and Play virtual Pool, bowling, or invite them in to a PS3 game to play with you. You can rent movies (some in HD) from an always growing catalog and purchase many of them. The things that this new PS3 lacks from the original 60 gb model is SACD support, it only has 2 USB vs. the 4 on the original. The top left part of this PS3 doesn't open up like the old one because this one lacks the memory card slots. The good thing is that this PS3 is so much quieter and takes up less space than my original 60 gb because it uses a smaller chip which now makes it use less electricity. That was my biggest annoyance with the original PS3 was that it got a bit loud sometimes when watching movies or playing games which I felt a bit distracting. This new model is as quit as a mouse. With video chat, internet access, digital photo viewing, and digital audio and video the PS3 will likely be your home entertainment centerpiece. I have to say I am very happy with giving the Playstation 3 a chance and I highly recommend it for anyone who appreciates a great game system with some awesome entertainment features. With the new PS3 slim and a long overdue price cut SONY is back in the game, and with new games like Uncharted 2 and may other exclusives this is going to be the start of the new Playstation revolution. This system may be lacking some of the original PS3 60 gb features, but it is still one awesome entertainment powerhouse that I highly recommend!Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Buying PlayStation 3 120 GB

Ok, I got my slim before anyone else because I know people at Sony. I have to say I'm very impress with this console. I still prefer the PS3 over the 360 elite. This console is not the best PS3 console. My favorite console is still the 60 GB. This console is better than the current 80 GB and 160 GB consoles. Now let me say the pros and cons.

PROS----------------

1. Small and compact(about the size of a fat PS2{thinner but wider}).

2. Quite and reliable like the old PS3, and run quiter and better now accually.

3. The new Matte finish is no longer a fingerprint magnet(and a Piano Black skin like the old PS3s will be available within the next two monthes).

4. The old style PS2 and PSP logos are Back in Black.

5. Now you can replace your hard drive without breaking the warrenty.

6. Duelshock 3(the only reason I listed this is becuse I only have 2 Sixaxis contollers that don't vibrate like the Duelshock 3 controller).

CONS----------------

1. NO linux( this was already with me because It still has a free internet browser).

2. Only 2 USB ports(don't worry you can still have four contollers, this is only bad with Rockband and Guitar Hero because the controllers take up an HDMI port when in use).

3. No PS2 Backwards Compatability (this not a major problem because people if want a PS2 go out and buy a used one at Game Stop for only $29).

This is a great system for the price. I still prefer my 60GB PS3 over this but it is a grat value for a Blu Ray Player and gaming system. And if you're a parent this is a great system for the family that you can watch movies and play great family games such as Little Big Planet, Uncharted, Gran Trismo 5, Motorstorm, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, and Rachet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. This is one of my favorite consoles of all time making my top 3 which was previously

1. PS2
2. 60GB PS3
3. Game Boy Advance SP(I don't know why but I always loved this system)

but now its

1. PS2
2. 60GB PS3
3. 120GB PS3 slim

Thank you sony for delivering on nearly everysingle Playstion model. I don't care if you only have a 360 or wii, get this system. Dispite the name I am not biased. Infact I had a wii and 360 and PS3 all at one time but I got an RRoD on my 360 sold it and then desided to sell my wii because there weren't any quality games for it. But any way I give this amazing system 5 stars!!!!!Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Buy PlayStation 3 120 GB

I have an 80 Gb PS3, so will probably not be getting one. That having beens said. this may be the answer Sony has been looking for. With the Large Hdd and the pricing, it may be the thing to get the consumers attention. The biggest problem I have heard concerning the PS3 is price. This is a very good price for what you will be getting. This may push those who were on the fence about laying out the money, over to buying one. Hopefully, this new developement will be the thing to spur sales of the console and by extention create greater support by game developers for the PS3. It is only $[...] more then the Wii and you get a heckuva lot more for your buck. As for lack of backwards compatibility, no problem. The PS2 slimline has come down in price. I also have a PS2 ( Non Slimline )so I enjoy games for both. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Purchase PlayStation 3 120 GB

There's no backwards compatibility for Playstation 2 games. None. So yes, it is slimmer, sleeker, and better in many ways (i.e. space, noise, and energy concerns) than the original models of the PS3. However, just make sure you know what you're getting into before you buy it. An older model, while more expensive, can give full back catalog playback and, sometimes, many other benefits (card readers, etc). However, if you're only looking to play the best, newest games that Sony has to offer, this will meet your needs just fine. And if, for some strange reason, you fill up the HDD, they can be upgraded easily. In fact, Sony encourages it.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Order PlayStation 3 120 GB

As a proud owner of a PS3, I was closely following developments of when the rumored (and highly-anticipated) PS3 Slim would come out. After shelling [...] for the PS3 80GB back in 2008, I was really excited to hear that Sony not only announced a smaller version of the PS3, but also implemented a [long-overdue] $100 price cut. I immediately went out and bought the Slim as soon as possible, and am very happy with it so far. Here are my impressions:

COMPARED TO PLAYSTATION 3 "FAT"
A LOT SMALLER
I heard that it was smaller, but seeing is believing! The photos don't do the system justice, and it's not really till you see and feel the difference that you are impressed with it. If you can, go into your local game store and check it out for yourself! If you've previously owned a Playstation console, you already know the difference the slimmer version makes when compared to the original, bulky ones. What's really convenient is that the slimmer PS3 not only means your video gaming is more portable, but that you have a really convenient Blu-Ray player.

NOT A FINGERPRINT MAGNET
I love the sleek look of my PS3 Fat, but don't like how it constantly needs to be cleaned. The glossy finish is a fingerprint magnet! The matte finish on the Slim is much easier to maintain. That being said, it doesn't look as shiny and cool, but I think its convenience outweighs that.

MORE STORAGE
Storage was never an issue for me on my 80GB system, but for those who wanted more storage, you get 40GB more with this system (120GB in total). It may not seem like much, but you can hold MANY movies, pictures, and music albums with 120GB. If that's still not enough, you can always install a 2.5" hard drive yourself, or better yet, plug in an external hard drive in one of the USB ports. You can easily get a portable 500GB external hard drive for less than $100, or a bigger, bulkier one with around 1TB of storage for roughly the same. That being said, I think 120GB for $300 should be more than enough for most users, and is a significant improvement over the 80GB for $400 that people were paying just a few weeks ago!

STILL NOT BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE
This is my one major gripe with the Playstation 3. It really wouldn't have killed Sony to include this feature, as the original Playstation 3's did in fact include backwards compatibility with older Playstation 2 games. A lot of people counter by either saying (1) it doesn't make sense to buy a PS3 to play PS2 games, (2) the graphics on the PS3 are better anyway so why bother with older games, and (3) including backwards compatibility would cannibalize PS3 game sales.

While those arguments might have their merits, I'm still frustrated that my massive PS2 library can't be played on the PS3, and was really hoping that Sony would include backwards compatibility on the Slim! I loved the fact the PS2 was backwards compatible with PS1 games, and really wish that Sony would reconsider this decision.

COMPARED TO OTHER SYSTEMS:
PS3 vs. WII
I think comparing the PS3 directly to the Wii is a bit like comparing apples to oranges, since they offer such different experiences. The Wii in my opinion is more family-friendly, while the PS3 is better for more graphics-intense games geared towards different gemographics. I'm a huge fan of Nintendo, and I love their very family-oriented game offerings. I own a DS and Wii and still love Mario as much as the days back when I played the original Nintendo (NES). In addition, I think Nintendo's motion-sensitive controllers for the Wii are very innovative and fun to play with! Unfortunately however, for most gamers, the difference in game quality is noticeable when comparing the two systems. The PS3 has AMAZING graphics. On an HD Television, you notice such crisp details while playing the PS3. The Wii features only Standard Definition output, which noticeably weakens it when compared to the other next-gen consoles such as the PS3 and Xbox 360.

PS3 vs. XBOX 360
Microsoft has an impressive gaming console in their Xbox 360 and there are some amazing titles exclusive to the Xbox, but in the end you get less bang for your buck when compared to the Playstation 3:

(1) Online gameplay: You can use the Playstation Network's online features without having to pay a subscription fee like you do for the Xbox. I was never a big online gamer but now I enjoy playing against opponents online.
(2) Internet connectivity: Built-in wireless internet connectivity on the PS3 is a much better bet than having to buy a wireless network adapter for the Xbox. Of course you can simply rely on a wired Ethernet connection, but this might be inconvenient depending on your set-up.
(3) High-Def Video: The Playstation 3 doubles as a Blu-Ray player. Microsoft bet on the wrong horse when they were hoping that HD-DVD would come out the winner in the high-def format wars. If you want a Blu-Ray player/video game system combo, the PS3 is a great device.
(4) Failure rate: The Xbox 360 has an absurdly high failure rate, with estimates ranging between 30 to 50% ([...]). I can't verify the numbers, but know from my friends who own the Xbox 360 that they've had a fair share of grief with their systems.

Microsoft does have a few edges, namely the upcoming Project Natal, unveiled at June's E3. While Natal may ultimately be one of the most amazing advances in video gaming, it unfortunately is still some time off from being implemented. That being said, the Playstation 3 is much more worth the cost than the Xbox 360 - at least for now.

FINAL THOUGHTS
[...] system that doubles as a Blu-Ray player. Keep in mind though that the bulk of money spent on the video game system will not be in the initial down payment, but the subsequent games, extra controllers (only comes bundled with one controller), and other peripherals/accessories. [...]. Sony's refusal to incorporate backwards-compatibility for PS2 games on the PS3, however, might make your gaming library obsolete in a few years, so if you have the money, you're best off going for the PS3 Slim. You won't regret it. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Where To Buy PlayStation 3 120 GB

I love the ps3 slim, the only reason I purchased it is because. If my 60gb breaks down I wanted to have a backup ps3. It has everything the 80gb has, except the ability to install another OS. The thing that I really like about it is the fact that its so quiet, and it doesn't produce as much heat as my 60gb. It has two usb ports, built in wifi, its a little easier to swap hdd's in the slim. I'd recommend the slim to anyone looking for a top of the line blu ray player, and the best gaming console on the market. The only thing that people may not like, is that it doesn't have the ability to play ps2 games. Other than that I think it is WELL WORTH the $299Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

I'll try to keep this as short as possible, I'll list the facts First about the ps3 slim, then I'll tell you what can you do with a PS3 and at the end I'll post my impressions about the PS3 Slim, so skip to the part you need if you do not want to read specs or impressions and only want to know what's the PS3 is capable of.

*****************According to SONY ps3 slim is officially********************* :

*32 percent smaller,36 percent lighter, and has 34 percent less power consumption than latest models
*it can stream bitstream Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD audio (older models can only decode them to uncompressed PCM),
*it's identical to the PS3 fat feature wise expect the removal of install OS option (Only 2 guys on earth used it)
*it WONT play PS2 Games at all but it can play PS1 games (latest PS3 fat models also does not play PS2 games)
*Needs a $20~ stand to be stable in the vertical position (don't place it vertical without the stand, not safe)
*Got BRAVIA Sync unlike the Old PS3 (lets you control your PS3 via your TV remote control,if your TV support it)

************So what can you do with a PS3?(Will list most important)*******************

1-Play Next generation HD games and have access to the exclusive games (I highly recommend Valkyria Chronicles/Killzone2/MGS4/uncharted/GT5p as the top 5 exclusives in my opinion)
2-One of the best BluRay players at the market + One of the best DVD upscalers on the market with HDMI 1080p
3-120GB storage, you can download Demos/Videos/etc from Playstation network and play online FREE with your friends.
4-299$ Hardware that's built like a tank from a company that will support you for at least 10 years (Look at PS2)
5-Built in browser/wifi with Flash support (Youtube will work) with Internal Power supply in one package.
6-One of the best media players you can also stream media from your pc via wireless or ethernet.
7-It plays all PS1 games also you can also download PS1 games from playstation network many games are already available like Final Fantasy VII/Metal gear Solid/Resident evil/Tomb raider/etc.
8-Play pictures/Videos from your cameras easily, if your PC is not strong enough to play those 1080p videos the PS3 can do it easily.
9-Remember after all it's a game console in the first place and the games are really good on it, if you want to invest on a console and buy games over the years make sure the hardware does not fail on you and the PS3 hardware is as good as it gets when it comes to console reliability.

Note: The PS3 have no hidden fees ,it does not require 50$ a year for online play like some others , it does not require 100$~ wireless add on, it have BluRay built it and the hard drive is easily upgradeable (It use 2.5SATA laptops hard drive)

************* PS3 Slim impressions and PS3 Slim vs PS3 Fat ****************************

*size* if you think PS3 slim is so slim and tiny you will be disappointment the console is still big so ps3 slim is not so slim really but compared to the BEAST old ps3 was i say PS3 slim is a step on the right direction it's about half the height of the PS3 FAT and it's lighter by like 2 kilo/4pounds.

*Temperature/Heat different :

PS3 Slim DVD Playback Temperature 42C Power Consumption 75W
PS3 Fat DVD Playback, Temperature 45C Power Consumption 153W
PS3 Slim BD Playback, Temperature 38C Power Consumption 86W
PS3 Fat BD Playback, Temperature 47C Power Consumption 160W

(As you can see the PS3 slim is much better in here and it use much less power as what Sony claim plus the air coming out of the console is warm while PS3 fat air was HOT.

*Fan noise check :

Slim is quieter that's for sure it's so quite that i can actually hear the optical disc spinning sound, it was not possible with the old PS3 because the fan noise was so high(not xbox high but still high for my taste) that i can not hear the optical disc.(Compared to the 60GB PS3, i heard the 80GB PS3 were quieter though)

After playing with the PS3 slim for like 2 days i can honestly tell that if you do not care about PS2 playback you must get a PS3 slim it's much better than the old PS3 (Quieter/Smaller/as good as PS3 fat/etc), when i bought my old PS3 i thought i will need PS2 playback but honestly after like 2-3 years i have only used it like 5 times. and PS2 cost like 90$ New and 50$ Used in case you needed one.

For importers : If you want to import the PS3 slim i can confirm that the POWER SUPPLY is universal it says 100-240V and 50/60Hz under the PSU package.

Get the PS3 slim if you are a gamer or you will miss out a lot of all those great games people will talk about for generations after this one! and I hope this Review was helpful for you guys ! Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Still waiting on delivery, but being that I'm quite impatient and not a fan of anything microsoft I just wanted to share this related article with slim buyers & Playstation haters.

The Slim was built with a 95 mm 17 blade fan that consumes most of the interior space of the case. I would be very suprised with the cooler running processor and this enormous fan that there will any problems with overheating. So Microsoft contributors don't get all high and mighty just yet. you'll still be experiencing a 50% failure rate while PS3 slim buyers are watching Bluray, upgrading hard drives and spending less $$ for online play.

If you see that comment that's a 1 star, don't listen, its just fake, It was posted by an xbox fanboy that doesn't even own one.

PlayStation 3 120 GB This instant

The new slim model has been said to be ugly, and a crappier version (Display-Wise) of the Original PS3.

I have never owned the original PS3, so I cannot make any comparisons besides the three following:

There is no Linux support, which is fine because I wasn't planning to use it.

Bigger Hard Drive, with the same price as a original 80GB PS3.

Smaller, (Not sure about lighter) than the original PS3. Except when placed up-right, the width is larger than the width of the original PS3.

My first review, so I'll just do the standard cons, and pros. I'll ad a "neutral" for a opinion thing.

Pros:
Bigger HD for the same price.
Lighter than the original.
Same texture as the PS2, which is great if you don't like fingerprints on your PS3.
Same as Original PS3 basically.

Cons:
Heats up pretty quickly. Used it for about two hours, and it had already heated up a fair amount. Though I kept playing for another two hours or so, and the heat never increased, so it won't overheat quickly. I'll get a cooler, if one ever comes out, just in case.

Neutral:
No Linux support. Whether or not you were going to use this would depend on if it was a con, or pro, or not.
Buttons, instead of touch-sensitive pads. Some have said that they prefer the touch-sensitive eject, and power buttons, instead of actual buttons. I personally, don't care.
No hard power switch on the back. I know the original had a power switch on the back to do a hard power off, and on. This is easily fixed by disconnecting the power cable, but it would have been pretty convenient if the Slim had it as well.

Overall, if you were planning to get a PS3, get a slim, or the "new" PS3, or just, "PS3", as the slim version is actually officially called the PS3.

If you want a PS3, but wanted Linux support, and like the older look instead of the newer look, get a original.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

PlayStation 3 120 GB Best Quality

I already owned a original 60GB model that had PS2 backward compatibility. I was planning on getting another BD player for my bedroom. I was considering the new Samsung players when this was announced. It's cheaper and it plays games plus it has a HDD. It was a no-brainer for me. The PlayStation 3 is far and away the best console or for that matter Blu-Ray player you can currently get for its price range. There are many advantages to the 360 and the Samsung BD players, however if I had to have one without the others, my honest and objective recommendation is the new PS3.

Like I've said it's a great bargain for a great system, but it is not without its shortcomings.

-No PS2 Backward compatibility. (important to me but not everyone)
-No Netflix (360 has Netflix and so do the Samsung BD players) (also, important to me but not everyone)
-Backup Utility is awkward (nobody uses FAT32 format anymore and it's actually a process to even format a HDD that way) (You can do it with Swissknife though)
-Online play isn't as good as 360's(but it IS free and is being improved even as I type this...)
-No mic jack on controller (Bluetooth Headsets are not as easy, so people don't bother. The result is a lot less people are talking in multi player games. A plus side to this is that you don't have to listen to a bunch of 13 year olds screaming the N-word and insulting your mom).

I hope I didn't complain too much about the system it really is a great machine and the best deal out there.

This is way better than the other ps3's. It is a lot cheaper. It has a better hard drive and it looks a lot nicer. It is smaller and lighter. It also kept all the other features of the ps3 except for the on and eject buttons which doesn't affect anything. The controllers are still great(dual-shock 3's). It has great games and it processes games quicker. This is the system you want it is fast, reliable, and looks good. Buy it and you won't be dissapointed.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

PlayStation 3 120 GB Decide Now

It's amazing what Sony is trying to pass off as high tech this late in 2009. The Xbox 360 launched in November of 2005 for 399. FOUR YEARS LATER, Sony is hoping some of you waited 4 years for their 299 PS3 Slim.

The Xbox 360 was already better 4 years ago. This is actually a downgrade if you compare online features and game quality.

However you do get Blu-ray. In 2006 Blu-ray was the answer to the question no one was asking. Today it's the only reason anyone has bothered with the abysmal failure that has been the PS3.

At this stage any serious gamer already has a 360 and/or a Wii. And those who want a Blu-ray player can find a stand alone unit for under 150.

Thank you Sony, for delivering your proprietary crap again to keep milking your fanboys. You gotta live right?Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

PlayStation 3 120 GB Right now

I own an original PS3 60GB and have just gotten the PS3 slim and to me, I like the slim look better than the original one. I mean, dont get me wrong, the shinny black with chrome trim on mine looks very nice and classy, but the dust and fingerprints are just too visible. With the slim, it is ovious that it was made with cheaper plastic and stuff, but the flatter, stealthier look is awesome. Plus you get a 120gb hard drive and even though it doesnt play ps2 games... for the amount selling now, you can afford to buy a used cheap ps2.
I wouldnt buy a PS3 slim just for an upgrade, but if you dont have one right now, the PS3 slim is the way to go.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Lowest Price PlayStation 3 120 GB

I expected the slim model to have a less quality built. But once I got it in my hands I realized it was actually better than the original. The Slim model is not a fingerprint magnet like the earlier models. I don't want to complain about backwords compatibility because I don't think I will play any of my PS2 games. And for this price, I shouldn't complain at all. Along with the gaming power this thing has, it is also one of the best blue-ray players out there. (or at least the best bang for your buck)

I had both, the PS3 80GB model and the PS3 120GB model; both new. This is what I found to be different:
[NOTE: I AM LISTING WHAT HAS NOT BEEN LISTED ON THE AMAZON DESCRIPTION ALREADY]
The obvious differences is that it is smaller, more energy efficient, has more HDD storage (and easy removable) and the case differs.

1 - The PS3 Slim papers and information were nearly identical. Except for the logos/images of the console. But the PS3 Slim (for some reason) did not have the yellow sheet that the previous versions had. The yellow sheet included the 1800 number (1800-345-SONY/1800-345-7669)

2 - The previous PS3 power cable was a 3-plug (both from the outlet and into the PS3); The new one is not as thick and is only 2-outlet

3 - When you first turn on the PS3, the tune is similar but different and the default OS is 2.73 (I think) The NEW PS3 logo is displayed along with the default (regular) theme but in Pink.

As you noticed, these changes are insignificant and somewhat irrelevant to what is really important. The new PS3 is by far the best gaming platform/entertainment system out there. Sure there is no backwards compatibility, but if possible, Sony might attempt to let people download PS2 Games from the Playstation Store - or we can only hope. But to be honest, PS3 Games are now cheaper than ever. You can find Resistance Fall of Man for around $10 used here on Amazon.

I have been a ps3 owner for more than 2 years and love my 80g system. I feel no need to review the entire system as there are a plethora of well written ones by more qualified people. While I have only had the "slim" system for one day, some minor issues have become apparent. First, I have experienced major problems getting the controllers to sync up with the system due to interference with the logitech harmony PS3 adapter. I have NOT had problems when using the adapter in conjunction with my 80g model (except for occasional "shut down" problems that others have reported. In sum, when I turn the system on and try to sync the controllers, the four red lights continuously blink. I have tried numerous controllers and experienced the same problem. However, when the logitech adapter is unplugged, no such syncing problems occur. I don't know whether to blame sony or logitech for this discrepancy (I have tried customer service to both companies to no avail). Other than that, I have had one instance of attempting to shut down the system only to have the power light continually flash green while (as if it were stuck)...had to do a hard reset to fix this. Other than these two issues, it appears to work just as my other SKU, which is to say, wonderfully...great gaming (online and off), terrific blu ray, and all-in-all exceptional media center. If anyone has any tips regarding the problems I have mentioned please let me know.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Save PlayStation 3 120 GB

I just got my PS3 slim yesterday and have been using it for games and blu-ray movies almost the entire time since. I am very impressed with this smaller version of my favorite console system. I already have the first generation PS3 that was released on launch day back a few years ago. Yes, my only biggest gripe about the PS3 slim (shared by many people) is that it's not backwards compatible with PS2. Also, why couldn't Sony just throw in an HDMI cable along with it (I know you could get it for less than ten bucks nowadays, but this is more about convenience).

I noticed that a lot of reviews here complained about it overheating easily. You guys should try to let it stand up vertically. I had my PS3 slim running for more than 3 hours and went to touch it but it was fine. The only part that felt kind of warm was the rear, but again I said "kind of warm", not "hot". I had the same problem with my first generation PS3 when I left it running while it laid flat (horizontal position). In this position, not only was it noisy, but it generated a LOT of heat that could be felt 3 ft away, and almost burnt my fingers when I went to touch it. But both of these problems were instantly resolved when I had it standing up. My PS3 slim stands fine without the vertical stand. I'm still looking to purchase the vertical stand when I see it, but I haven't seen it anywhere. But now that it looks like it could stand without any help, I might not need to rush in getting one.

The most impressive thing about the PS3 slim is that it is really quiet. This is an obvious indication that the hardware is much more powerful now in this latest incarnation. For the price that is almost similar to buying a Sony stand-alone blu-ray player, I couldn't recommend this more.

We all go out and buy the original for a crazy amount of money, and suddenly they come out with this thing which seems way better in design but is essentially the same thing. I gave it 5 stars because of the system itself. But for shortchanging us all who bought the original I give you 1 star Sony! I will not buy another game system until 3-4 years after Playstation 4 comes out. Maybe I'll be buying the cheaper better design they come out with after the original hits the shelf's. 1. Blu-Ray player.
2. Smaller and sexier.

4. All my friends who bought an X-Box 360 ended up with a PS3 because hardware malfunctions on the X-Box.
5. Wii is just not for me, I've played but I got tired of the lame graphics/games pretty quick.

I just picked up my PS3 Slim today, locally...I was honestly wondering if Sony got the hint from the slow trickle of PS3s in the past...all I could think of were long lines and striking out at local stores...but, to my surprise, there were roughly 30 units in a locked cage where I purchased it. My first PS3(80 gig, Motorstorm package), which I purchased a YEAR ago has since given up on playing blu-ray discs, much to my dismay. Real bummer as I have had a stack of blu-rays I hadn't even watched yet, so I am sure you can imagine the disgust and outrage, especially since I bought the 80 gig online...so, here I am, with my Slim 120 gig, hoping for the best. I hooked it up to my 46" Sony "Z" series Bravia LCD, and kept my fingers crossed. Still looking as amazing as ever, I breathed a sigh of relief, and put in a disc...no problems what-so-ever. Of course, it's only been a few hours, and I have already watched about 75% of "The Venture Brothers" season 3, and I am hoping I don't have to take back all the wonderful things I have said of Sony products in the past. I'll keep my fingers crossed for everyone out there, including myself, and I'll buy more blu-ray discs...hpefully not to be continued... Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

I am pleased with the new PS3 Slim I'm not going to list a whole bunch of facts already given just what I like better about the Slim. First I like how qiuet the hardware runs no more annoying loud fan noise after a few hours of gaming. Its a cool sounding hum. Some people think the 120g hard drive is not enough but for me its just right. As an owner of an original 60gig PS3, 60g was not enough I don't think I need any more than 120g. I like that they now come with the DualShock 3 controller, thats a plus. I really like what Sony has done to improve the hardwareand lowering the price. I would recommend to those that are interested in buying one to go ahead and get it before the "playstaion4" and "Xbox420" start to become rumors.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Order PlayStation 3 120 GB

I now own all 3 of the major seventh generation consoles, Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3. So comparing the systems makes some sense.

TIP: Pick up an HDMI cable with your PS3. There are some inexpensive ones on Amazon that qualify for free shipping with purchases [...]. The video quality sucks if you stick to the output that the PS3 comes with.

PROS AND CONS

PROS: WIFI capabilities built-in. Controller design we're familiar with from the PS2 and sufficiently similar to the 360 controller. Excellent game selection. Free online play. Bluray player. Good price.

CONS: Controller requires a USB connection for charging. Controller does not have removable batteries. Not PS2 backwards compatible. Arguably better exclusives found on the 360.

COMPARING TO THE WII

We picked up our Wii at launch (second in line, tent in front of Best Buy). Like a lot of gamers, our Wii has sat collecting dust after the newness wore off. The Wii has had too few attractive titles. Games that are present on all three systems tend to be the worst on the Wii. As an example, we grabbed Madden for the Wii around launch. Unfortunately much of the gameplay had been stripped out on the Wii version (career modes gone, etc). Junk games rule the Wii market meaning good games get lost in the mix.

I know, this is a lot about the Wii. I bring it up because the PS3 does not have these problems.

If you're my mom or wanting a console for parties, pick up a Wii - otherwise the PS3 wins out here.

COMPARING TO THE XBOX 360

I bought our Xbox 360 about two years ago. Hardware problems have hit already, [...].

The divide between the PS3 and 360 is really pretty small now. After all, at the time of this review the systems will both cost you the same amount of money.

On content, games that are multi-platform are sufficiently identical between the PS3 and 360. But when it comes to exlusive games, the 360 has a slight edge here.

If you're the movie watching type, the PS3 has a Bluray player while the 360 has Netflix. That makes it a tough choice. One thing to keep in mind is you currently cannot use Netflix on the 360 with just a silver account. That means you're going to have to pay a monthly fee for a gold account. More on Xbox Live next.

Online gaming is free on the PS3. On the 360 you're going to have to pony up anywhere between $3.50 to $5 a month to Microsoft for Xbox Live. Yuck. Consider this one of the hidden costs of Xbox 360 gaming. Note: You can still get updates, buy games, addons, themes, etc. with a free Silver account on the 360. You just can't play online or watch movies/tv shows on Netflix instantly.

Yet another 360 hidden cost is WIFI. If you're using WIFI at home, expect to throw another [...] for wireless. PS3 comes out of the box with wireless built-in (although I hear there might be some quality problems, but I haven't experienced any). We still have a cable running across the living room for the 360. The PS3 is mostly cable free. Yet another hidden cost for owning a 360.

Xbox 360 achievement points or the PS3 trophies? Personally I like the 360's point system over trophies. With gamer points, you get a certain amount of points with more difficult achievement arguably worth more points. The sound effect when you earn an achievement on the 360 is more obvious and less easy to ignore. There's a rewarding feeling when you get achievements. With trophies, I've actually received some and didn't notice until later. Of course, the 360 pops you out of the game's immersion easier than the PS3. To each his own, I suppose.

I would expect the PS3 to be around longer than the 360, so overall the PS3 should be a better buy.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Much better choice than the xbox 360. I owned a xbox 360 now I have an 80 gig Ps3. Never had a problem with it. I have had three xbox 360's and had overheating issues with all of them .The online is identical and the playstation network is free. Call of Duty 5 plays online the same as the xbox 360. Trust me the Ps3 is a long term game system and the xbox 360 is a fad. Look at how Sony still supports the Ps2 and Microsoft ditched the original xbox. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

The new PS3 slim just arrived at my house yesterday, and I was immediatly impressed. I owned a launch day 60GB PS3, and loved that machine, and have about 20+ games. I sold the 60GB PS3 when I saw leaked chinease pictures. On with the review!

Upon opening the Amazon box for the PS3 slim, I immediatly was taken back by the retro packaging, notably the new "old" logo, PlayStation 3 logo. Nice refresh from the copycat Spiderman 3 font, which I was very tired of, and was originally dissapointed they changed to that font in the first place. I am an old school playstation fan from the SNES CD days in Nintendo Power. Bought an original Playstation back in the day in 1996 too. Where you had to get your Twisted Metal fix with the machine upside down.

Case Design:
I love the new PS3, the case design is fantastic. The plastic feels much more solid that the clear acrilyc of the original PS3. There is no door to break off for the card ports. It doesn't weigh 11 pounds either! It is also very stable laying flat on the entertainment center. It does not feel cheap at all. I love the new fingerprint free finish. The new non touch buttons are much better in my opinion, they give you some feedback that the button was pressed. Very nice. The power cable is also the smaller "laptop style" 2 wire cable. No external power brick to hide like 360 or PS2 slim either. I'm glad they made the system a little deeper to accomadate an internal power supply.

Overall Case design compared to original PS3 design: 9/10 Very good

Really that is the only difference realistically from the old PS3 and the new Slim.

Bottom line:
If you do not develop programs for the Cell architecture, Linux support is not really necessary. Also the Card reader slots were hardly ever used, and two USB ports are perfectly fine. I've heard reports of the BD-Rom being slower in the Slim vs Phat. However I didn't notice anything, but I wasn't timing load times either. I find the reports of the drive being slower suspect. I doubt the drive is the reason since I can't believe it is anything but a 2X drive just like the old one.

I would recommend the new PS3 Slim for everyone except the most hardcore 1337 gamers out there that have tons of stuff hooked up to their PS3 and are trolling message boards from their PS3 running linux on their 24" Monitor. LOL

But seriously, this PS3 is very good. I would recommend the Slim over the 80GB old version, if you are struggling with a decision. If you are casual, don't buy a used 60GB PS3, buy a new Slim.

PlayStation 3 120 GB

What I really like about the slim is that it still has the same functionality as the old PS3 (except the install os) for a lower price. I respect the 360 for Live, cross chat, and a good XMB, but think of the long term benefits with the PS3 slim. The slim consumes less power than the 360 thus cutting costs from your electric bill. Also, the slim has a big fan inside which helps prevent the system from burning. This is a problem for the 360: the lack of a good cooling system. Had Microsoft cut the price AND redesign the cooling system of its system, I would be giving a lot of thought on which console to purchase. However, Microsoft just cut the price and that's it.

Also, the PS3 will be getting a lot of high quality exclusives. Its lineup is much more diverse than the 360. Yes, 360 will have Fable III, Alan Wake, Halo ODST, and Forza 3, but the PS3 will have Demon's Souls, White Knight Chronicles, Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time, EyePet, Gran Turismo 5, God of War III, Heavy Rain, MAG, ModNation Racers, Quantum Theory, and Afrika. Later on in 2010, it will get The Last Guardian, Agent, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Last Rebellion.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

PlayStation 3 120 GB Review

I just received my PS3 Slim today - I am also a current owner of a PS3 60gb version with hardware backward compatibility to the PS2.

My initial thought is that the new PS3 Slim is fantastic - nice and small, certainly about 50% quieter than my original PS3, and everything works as it should. Just make sure you get a remote control if you will be using it a lot for movies, as the standard controller is not as form friendly.

I am not a major gamer, so I will mostly use the unit to watch movies (Blu-rays 95% of the time) and also access my music, photo, and video collection I have stored on my PC. You can't do that with a standalone Blu-ray player.

In addition, for a small $[...] cost (actually now it is $[...] until August 31st if you use coupon code AUG10OFF) you can install PlayOn software on your PC and then stream Netflix, Hulu, CBS, ESPN, and more to your PS3. It works great and makes the PS3 the best media solution regardless if you play games on it or not. The wireless works flawlessly (I have everything else in the house hardwired to ethernet thru routers/switches) even for streaming video with PlayOn.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

PlayStation 3 120 GB Top Quality

PS3 fanboys love to spout about how reliable the PS3 is compared to 360. Well guess what, nothing is rock solid. I got my PS3 Slim yesterday, got it all hooked up and initialized and was having a fine time exploring its features...until I actually tried to play a disc.

I started with the Coraline (Two-Disc Collector's Edition w/ 3D) Blu-Ray and was somewhat disturbed when I couldn't get it to play. So then I tried the DVD included in that combo package and it loaded and played immediately. Back to Coraline Blu-Ray, still no luck, so I thought I'd try a Blu-Ray from Sony: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete [Blu-ray]. Also didn't play. At this point, I was pretty sure there was a problem, so tried what's supposed to be the console's main purpose: a PS3 Blu-Ray game disc, namely Resistance: Fall Of Man. Didn't load. At all. And these were all brand new, just opened, never been played discs. Guess what's getting returned? And yes, I realize that Blu-Ray discs take quite a bit longer to load but I encountered very obvious disc drive glitching sounds and eventual timeouts.

I will admit that the form factor is much better now with the slimmer and lighter design, although it's not very pretty to look at. Surprisingly, it makes the 360 look large when they're side by side. I also like that it now has actual buttons for power and eject instead of those ridiculous touch-sensitive pads on the old system. However, its navigation just isn't as intuitive as the 360's. And don't believe that it runs "cool"; with the current chipset and the power supply inside instead of an external brick it's practically hand-burning temp underneath, which makes me very leery of its chances to avoid burning out over time.

Good to have a Dualshock force feedback wireless controller instead of the lame Sixaxis motion-sensitive non-force feedback one they launched with. However, it feels cheap and small compared to the 360 controller, even though additional controllers are roughly 50% higher than the current 360 controller prices on Amazon. Also, you can't just swap out its internal battery for off the rack AAs in a pinch like you can with the 360, so you're pretty tethered to its entirely too short USB charging cable even though it's wireless. And really, the basic design hasn't changed at all since the original Dualshock released what, 12 years ago? Might be time for a refresh, product designers.

Assuming I get a functional model in the future, I'm still concerned about the weak software library they've managed to build in the last three years I've been ignoring them. Aside from their key exclusive title Metal Gear Solid 4, they've got a whole lot of nothing from my perspective. I'll play Resistance and may get Uncharted eventually, but compared to the 360's vast library (which admittedly had an additional year head start), it's frankly a joke. So ask yourself if you really need to spend $300 for the opportunity to play a handful of worthwhile exclusive games. I'll ultimately use mine for Blu-Ray movies far more than games, which makes this a fairly expensive Blu-Ray player.

This is the system and the price that they should have launched with three years ago. Just hope that you get one that actually works. And remember, only one year warranty compared to Xbox's three year warranty. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

PlayStation 3 120 GB Immediately

Just got the new PS3 slim today and it far exceeded my already high expectations. The video and sound quality for both games and blu-ray is truly "mind bottling." Highlights include:
-built in wifi
-free access to Playstation Network
-beautiful video and sound quality
-superb controller
-excellent exclusive and multiplat. games
-a truly amazing bargain

The only drawback is the lack of HDMI or component cables, but of course you can get these for pennies through Amazon. Some complain of the lack of Netflix streaming, but in my opinion once you've tried blu-ray it's hard to go back to those grainy streaming formats! Also, I think the new design is quite nice: minimalist with an appealing texture contrast.

Basically, for $300 you will instantly transform your tv into a high end multimedia home theater. Go buy one now!

*-one more note: I was initially worried that my 720p tv wouldn't demonstrate the full capabilities of the PS3. Needless to say, my worries wore gone the moment I fired up the unit!

PlayStation 3 120 GB Get it now!

The PlayStation 3 is in my opinion the best multimedia center created to date. Most people recognize it for being able to play games, but it is also capable of playing CD, DVD, and the highly-acclaimed HD Blu-Ray format.

When it comes to gaming, there is no comparison. The PS3 receives all of the large multi-platform titles such as Batman: Arkham Asylum, Modern Warfare 2 and Street Fighter IV, and also gets arguably the best collection of exclusive games on the market including Killzone, Little Big Planet and Uncharted. The PS3 is a very convenient piece of hardware and requires no extra fees after purchase, and is also very reliable. An online PSN account for the PS3 is free, and allows you to create an online profile which can earn trophies from games, add friends and also download tons of content from the PlayStation Store.

The media side of the PS3 is remarkable stuff. The Blu-Ray format is in my honest opinion and underrated format. While HDTV's aren't in everyone's home, the difference between an HDTV and SDTV is huge. Blu-Ray takes full advantage of the HD format and also allows for up to 50GB of storage.

This new model of the PS3 is more effective than its predecessor. Not only does it consume less power, but it is about 33% smaller and 33% lighter. It's genuinely an electronic and hardware masterpiece, and the fact that such power can be crammed into such a small unit speaks volumes about the ingenuity of the human mind.

To summarize, the PS3 is a great piece of hardware that is multi-dimensional, future-proof, powerful, and is now at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend this product.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

PlayStation 3 120 GB Buy Now

I have owned XBox 360, Wii and now this new PS3 slim and I have to say I'm impressed. I went through an unfortunate total of 5 x 360's (all died RROD) but was still tempted when I went and saw the new Elite today (manufactured July 09). I just couldn't bring myself to go through the experience again although it is an excellent machine, just too many issues.

I picked up the new PS3 and it is extremely quiet and cool running. Having a lot of fun with it so far, love the Blu-Ray and free PSN as well as support for Bluetooth Headsets and USB keyboards.

Will update review after a couple of days.

I only have one question to fellow PS3 owners out there. When I insert or eject a disc there is a clicking or ratcheting sound, is this normal ? Again this only happens on insert and eject, it is perfectly quiet any other time.

Go pickup one of these units, this is now the system it should have been from the start.............available to the masses !!!Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

My old PS3 60gig overheated a few months back and died. I heard rumors that Sony was going to cut the price soon so I decided to wait and not get it repaired but just buy a new one instead. Lucky I was able to turn my dead PS3 in at the local Gamestop and get $140, so that worked out well. After all the waiting, I finally picked up the PS3 slim the day it came out. The system is great, but I am disappointed that it still heats up, FAST. I played for about one hour and I felt the bottom of the system and it was burning hot.Even the top and the sides were warm. The PS3 was properly ventilated and I had the AC on full blast, so the environment was chilly in my room. Since my old PS3 overheated, I am kind of concerned that this Sony didnt do a better job adressing this issue. Modern Warfare 2 is coming out so this baby is going to be working overtime; Hopefully it doesnt die on me again!Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

PlayStation 3 120 GB Decide Now

The PS3 has lost too many exclusives - Final Fantasy XIII, Devil May Cry 4, Assassin's Creed and Grand Theft Auto IV among the biggest. The exclusives it does have are not worth a $299 console - Infamous, Uncharted, LBP and others are merely average games. The PS3 is still too expensive for what you buy a video game console for - video games. There are only 3-4 games worth playing right now, so buying this doesn't make sense. Perhaps when God of War III comes out will make more sense.

This thing is also massive - huge, about as big as the 360 (without the power brick). So much for being "Slim," right? Compare it to the PS2 Slim - I know the PS3 has to be bigger cause of the Hard Drive but man this thing is huge. Also there is no backwards compatibility so now I have to keep my PS2 to play my PS2 games. Sad. I know.... =(Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

PlayStation 3 120 GB Right now

I just picked up a second PS3,for my home Entertainment center and thought I would just use it as a blue ray player but I was wrong,I thought this was going to be ugly next to my fat ps3 but I have really started to like this version a lot better, its so much quieter than my 1st gen ps3 and lighter.I have to say this is by far the best piece of home theater gear i have bought in a long time,i wanted to get a stand alone Blue Ray player but for 100$ more you get so much more.Excellent product Sony and it Decodes both True -HD and DTs-Master which is awesome. Lowest Price PlayStation 3 120 GB

I've owned a 360 and Wii since shortly after each launched. The price of the PS3 always held me back, but when the slim came out with the new price tag, I decided it was time to take the plunge, and I'm glad I did! It's sleek low profile looks great in my entertainment center and is nearly silent when compared to my (twice repaired) 360. The games look just fantastic! Be aware that this doesn't come with an HDMI cable, (only composite) so if you are hooking up to an HDTV, be sure to pick one up. I had to go out and get one after getting my system, so save yourself a trip. Other than that, I heartily recommend this system! Bravo Sony!Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Low Price PlayStation 3 120 GB

Been a 360 fan for years.Never thought i would grab a ps3 but now that it had a few games and a cheaper price and would fit with my other home theater equipment i figured i would grab one.
I own a 52" sony bravia 1080p tv that i hooked this up to.I used the best hdmi cable set all the settings to where they need to be on the console and now heres my review.

Build quality
Far better built than my 360 nicer looking but a little to big they may have slimmed it but its still large. It has alot of nice features in the hardware department bluray wireless bluetooth etc. This is all great but it doesnt make up for its lack of other important things.

Software
Theres a few games that are worth a purchase here nothing as good as 360 library in quantity.Quality isnt a problem they just need more. The menu system is awful compared to 360 its a mess. Its much more advanced and home isnt to bad it beats 360 avatars and there online pricing is better at the store.

Bluray
I really dont get it at all.I watched spiderman and to be honest there wasnt the same wow factor as to when i watched king kong on hddvd. It just didnt compare maybe because im used to hd now or maybe it just isnt that great the sound is outstanding tho.

Stuff that really pisses me off
The stupid thing throws me out of full pixel mode on my tv when playing certain games and i figure it may be due to the ps3 not upscale games to 1080p my 360 never had that problem.Voice chat sucks i cant get together with people as easy as 360.No in game music which is really stupid.

Its worth 300 but no more than that.If you want a better software experience and online go 360 altho you have to pay it just works.
If you want nice hardware better picture quality and more advanced tweaking operttunities go ps3Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Save PlayStation 3 120 GB

The only thing you are gonna come out on top with the ps3 slim is that it has 120gb. You can always upgrade though so this really dosent matter. Besides that its a cheaper system than its predecessor, in more way than one. The Wifi compatibility is horrible, it is uglier than the xbox, which is saying a lot. Yes, it saves space, but it looks absolutely horrible with my glossy tv stand, DVR, and TV. In my opinion this is for the people who cannot afford the previous version. Also it has PRESS buttons rather than those nice futuristic TOUCH buttons. I would much rather throw out the extra 100 and get all the better features besides being smaller. I think Sony should have spent a little more time on this one. Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

Discount PlayStation 3 120 GB

got this from a local bestbuy.
its OK as a console, its not crap, its not amazing.
it has its fair share of flaws. see no point to get this if you already have a ps3(fat).
there no more "other os" which is lame.
not backwards capable anymore at all which is a HUGE flaw.
2usbs instead of 4 a flaw for people with 4 controllers of coarse.
expendable harddrive is nice.
As a dvd/blu-ray player it is flawless, even the dvd up scaling is amazing but sony still wont kick you an hdmi cable in the box.
i like the look of the other ps3 alot better both aren't too amazing looking but still nice on the eyes.
uses less energy but not enough to where you'll be shocked on your next energy bill.
online is still not as pleasing as xbl but it is free.
wifi's ok for me,not as good as my xbox's connection, but nothing to write home about.
blue tooth is hit or miss, an just dont like blue tooth at all even on cellphones.
seeing ton's of fanboys riping anyone to pieces if you didnt write a pure love review, but i dont care.
if you dont got a ps3 an want a GREAT blue-ray player with some ok games then get a ps3 now, price is pefect.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.
