Lowest Price PlayStation 3 120 GB

I expected the slim model to have a less quality built. But once I got it in my hands I realized it was actually better than the original. The Slim model is not a fingerprint magnet like the earlier models. I don't want to complain about backwords compatibility because I don't think I will play any of my PS2 games. And for this price, I shouldn't complain at all. Along with the gaming power this thing has, it is also one of the best blue-ray players out there. (or at least the best bang for your buck)

I had both, the PS3 80GB model and the PS3 120GB model; both new. This is what I found to be different:
[NOTE: I AM LISTING WHAT HAS NOT BEEN LISTED ON THE AMAZON DESCRIPTION ALREADY]
The obvious differences is that it is smaller, more energy efficient, has more HDD storage (and easy removable) and the case differs.

1 - The PS3 Slim papers and information were nearly identical. Except for the logos/images of the console. But the PS3 Slim (for some reason) did not have the yellow sheet that the previous versions had. The yellow sheet included the 1800 number (1800-345-SONY/1800-345-7669)

2 - The previous PS3 power cable was a 3-plug (both from the outlet and into the PS3); The new one is not as thick and is only 2-outlet

3 - When you first turn on the PS3, the tune is similar but different and the default OS is 2.73 (I think) The NEW PS3 logo is displayed along with the default (regular) theme but in Pink.

As you noticed, these changes are insignificant and somewhat irrelevant to what is really important. The new PS3 is by far the best gaming platform/entertainment system out there. Sure there is no backwards compatibility, but if possible, Sony might attempt to let people download PS2 Games from the Playstation Store - or we can only hope. But to be honest, PS3 Games are now cheaper than ever. You can find Resistance Fall of Man for around $10 used here on Amazon.

I have been a ps3 owner for more than 2 years and love my 80g system. I feel no need to review the entire system as there are a plethora of well written ones by more qualified people. While I have only had the "slim" system for one day, some minor issues have become apparent. First, I have experienced major problems getting the controllers to sync up with the system due to interference with the logitech harmony PS3 adapter. I have NOT had problems when using the adapter in conjunction with my 80g model (except for occasional "shut down" problems that others have reported. In sum, when I turn the system on and try to sync the controllers, the four red lights continuously blink. I have tried numerous controllers and experienced the same problem. However, when the logitech adapter is unplugged, no such syncing problems occur. I don't know whether to blame sony or logitech for this discrepancy (I have tried customer service to both companies to no avail). Other than that, I have had one instance of attempting to shut down the system only to have the power light continually flash green while (as if it were stuck)...had to do a hard reset to fix this. Other than these two issues, it appears to work just as my other SKU, which is to say, wonderfully...great gaming (online and off), terrific blu ray, and all-in-all exceptional media center. If anyone has any tips regarding the problems I have mentioned please let me know.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 120 GB.

I just got my PS3 slim yesterday and have been using it for games and blu-ray movies almost the entire time since. I am very impressed with this smaller version of my favorite console system. I already have the first generation PS3 that was released on launch day back a few years ago. Yes, my only biggest gripe about the PS3 slim (shared by many people) is that it's not backwards compatible with PS2. Also, why couldn't Sony just throw in an HDMI cable along with it (I know you could get it for less than ten bucks nowadays, but this is more about convenience).

I noticed that a lot of reviews here complained about it overheating easily. You guys should try to let it stand up vertically. I had my PS3 slim running for more than 3 hours and went to touch it but it was fine. The only part that felt kind of warm was the rear, but again I said "kind of warm", not "hot". I had the same problem with my first generation PS3 when I left it running while it laid flat (horizontal position). In this position, not only was it noisy, but it generated a LOT of heat that could be felt 3 ft away, and almost burnt my fingers when I went to touch it. But both of these problems were instantly resolved when I had it standing up. My PS3 slim stands fine without the vertical stand. I'm still looking to purchase the vertical stand when I see it, but I haven't seen it anywhere. But now that it looks like it could stand without any help, I might not need to rush in getting one.

The most impressive thing about the PS3 slim is that it is really quiet. This is an obvious indication that the hardware is much more powerful now in this latest incarnation. For the price that is almost similar to buying a Sony stand-alone blu-ray player, I couldn't recommend this more.
