I just got my PS3 slim yesterday and have been using it for games and blu-ray movies almost the entire time since. I am very impressed with this smaller version of my favorite console system. I already have the first generation PS3 that was released on launch day back a few years ago. Yes, my only biggest gripe about the PS3 slim (shared by many people) is that it's not backwards compatible with PS2. Also, why couldn't Sony just throw in an HDMI cable along with it (I know you could get it for less than ten bucks nowadays, but this is more about convenience).
I noticed that a lot of reviews here complained about it overheating easily. You guys should try to let it stand up vertically. I had my PS3 slim running for more than 3 hours and went to touch it but it was fine. The only part that felt kind of warm was the rear, but again I said "kind of warm", not "hot". I had the same problem with my first generation PS3 when I left it running while it laid flat (horizontal position). In this position, not only was it noisy, but it generated a LOT of heat that could be felt 3 ft away, and almost burnt my fingers when I went to touch it. But both of these problems were instantly resolved when I had it standing up. My PS3 slim stands fine without the vertical stand. I'm still looking to purchase the vertical stand when I see it, but I haven't seen it anywhere. But now that it looks like it could stand without any help, I might not need to rush in getting one.
The most impressive thing about the PS3 slim is that it is really quiet. This is an obvious indication that the hardware is much more powerful now in this latest incarnation. For the price that is almost similar to buying a Sony stand-alone blu-ray player, I couldn't recommend this more.
